GREENSTAR ISSUES STATEMENT ABOUT KILCONNELL DUMP

Greenstar has responded to concern among locals in Kilconnell about a recent planning application, which seeks to allow the company accept waste to the landfill from other regions.

It emerged yesterday [14/2] that an emergency meeting has been called for next Wednesday to allow residents in Kilconnell and surrounds to discuss the latest application for the landfill.

In a statement to Galway Bay Fm News, Greenstar says the landfill at Kilconnell is “the only facility in Connaught to be restricted to accepting waste from a specific area.”

This, they say, is “out of line with current waste policy.”

The company goes on to say that a removal of the regional restriction originally imposed on the landfill in 2003 would have no effect on the amount of waste disposed there.
