Green walkway may extend to Moycullen

A WALKWAY using the river, canals and green areas of the city is going to be developed with €1.5 million funding from the Department of Transport.
The Fisheries Field Greenway project will incorporate the best views of the city as it covers a 500mm length of walkway, previously not open to the public, that will also link in with the city’s waterways
and bridges.
The site is currently home to the Head Quarters of the Western Regional Fisheries Board and NUIG. The walkway will have impressive views of the upper Corrib river, the Salmon Weir Bridge and Galway City.
The proposed greenway will start at the junction of the Eglinton Canal Tow Path and University Road. From there it will run north east for 180m along the Tow Path before it crosses the canal onto the Fisheries Field and land to the north of NUIG’s boat sheds. A new 45m footbridge will be erected.
