Galway City Council has embarked on an extensive Graffiti Removal Project throughout the city — with the aim of cleaning up the image of the worst blackspots.

The clean-up project was initially launched in the disadvantaged Rapid areas of the city which are more susceptible to graffiti than others. But the project has now extended to cover the entire city, both public areas and private property.

A contractor has been employed to remove graffiti as sites are logged by the Community Warden Service who continue to monitor areas that are deemed to be graffiti blackspots.

In the meantime a joint partnership between the City Council and the Clayton Hotel has provided a location for street artists to show their work in the Briarhill underpass.
