The row over turf-cutting in County Galway is rumbling on.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service is being accused of ‘misleading’ the Government and turfcutters in relation to areas of special conservation.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Michael Connolly claims that the NPWS was working off an ordinance survey from 1837 when designating areas of raised bog in East Galway.

Turf cutters are up in arms at EU legislation which restricts the cutting of turf on some raised bogs.
