GALWAY will be particularly well represented in the Republic of Ireland senior women’s squad for the friendly with France later this month, after Irish manager Noel King called up 16 year old Dora Gorman and 18 year old Julieanne Russell for the game.

It is a first call-up to the senior squad for Gorman, who is the captain of the Irish U-17 side and is considered one of the best young players in the women’s game in the country, while the inclusion of Russell is no surprise given the starring role she played in the 2-1 win over Kazakhstan in a 2011 World Cup qualifier in November, when she came off the bench to set up the Irish equaliser as the Republic came from behind to win.

The pair will join fellow Salthill Devon player, Meabh de Burca, who is studying at the University of Pittsburgh in the US, and Niamh Fahey of Arsenal in the Irish squad for the game, which will be played in Richmond Park, Dublin, on Thursday, February 25 (kickoff 7.30pm).
