Galway Bay fm newsroom – A proposal to set up a new childcare facility at Newcastle in the city has been approved.

Patricia Shaughnessy has been granted planning permission to change a house at 17 Upper Newcastle from a B&B to a childcare and montessori unit.

However, a bid to retain and complete a single storey chalet at the back of the building has been refused.

In granting permission for the childcare facility in Newcastle, planners have imposed 5 conditions.

Chief among these is that 17 thousand 500 euro be paid to the Council towards the provision of public transport facilities.

However, planners have refused permission for the second part of the application relating to the retention of a chalet at the back of the house.

They say that the unit is not capable of re-assimilation into the existing house and therefore would not meet the requirements of the Development Plan.
