GMIT OFFERS TO BUY CORRIB GREAT SOUTHERN HOTEL

The site of the former Corrib Great Southern Hotel could finally be put to use.

Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology says it has made a ‘conditional offer’ for the site on the Dublin road.

Owner of the site, Gerry Barrett bought the hotel in 2006 using a company called MD Merlin Developments and it ceased trading in 2007.

The college is hoping to expand and it’s understood the expansion plans include a new engineering block.

The offer is subject to approval by GMIT’s Governing Body, which meets later this month and the Minister for Education.
