THEIR first season in the League of Ireland has been a succession of trips into the unknown for Mervue United, but that will not be the case tonight when Johnny Glynn takes his side to Newbridge to take on Kildare County (kickoff 7.30pm).

It was at Station Road that Mervue secured their promotion to the League of Ireland last year, a hugely impressive 3-0 win sealing their progress on a 5-2 aggregate scoreline and relegating Kildare County from the League in the relegation/promotion playoff.

The Thoroughbreds were reinstated to the League, however, after Cobh Ramblers failed to be awarded a First Division licence, but their joy has been shortlived as they have gone from one hammering to another in recent weeks, conceding a staggering 16 goals in their last three games, and 20 goals in total in their five league games to date.
