Glennon in top form as Mullagh off to a flier in title chase
Mullagh 1-22
Kilnadeema/Leitrim 1-14
Ivan Smyth at Duggan Park
WHEN Jack Kenny helped Kilnadeema/Leitrim move into a two-point lead in the 36th minute, few would have predicted that they would end up suffering an eight-point defeat. However, Mullagh struck eight unanswered points in a 12-minute spell as Kilnadeema/Leitrim’s challenge faded badly at Duggan Park on Saturday.
From the 36th to the 59th minute, Mullagh struck 1-11 while their opponent’s only scored one point. Although Conor Dervan’s side must be credited for taking control of the middle third and not allowing Kilnadeema/Leitrim generate any momentum, Kevin Molloy’s charges did not deal with the pressure placed on them and they will now need to regroup from this damaging defeat.
Kilnadeema/Leitrim have not won a championship game since they beat Mullagh in the senior A relegation play-off in 2018. This defeat means they have now lost six and drawn one of their last seven championship encounters, a worrying statistic for them.
Stephen Molloy grabbed the opening score of the game for Kilnadeema/Leitrim after Cathal Dervan was dispossessed. Mullagh almost struck back with a goal when Finian Coone’s dropping ball was spilled by Kilnadeema/Leitrim defender Darragh Donohue in his own full back line. This gifted Davy Glennon a goal scoring opportunity but surprisingly he crashed his effort into the side netting.
