The Glenamaddy branch of Ulster Bank has closed it’s doors.

The bank had been situated in the town for decades and is being wound down as part of a national branch footprint review.

Today’s closure is part of a branch footprint review announced at the start of this year.

It will see five banks and six sub-offices close in the Republic of Ireland.

Customers at the branch on Church Street in the town will have their accounts transferred to Tuam.

Padraig Raftery is Chairperson of the local traders association who had lobbied to have the decision reversed.

He told FYI Galway that it’s a significant loss to the town.
