Well it’s nearly there, the end in sight, the year almost within touching distance of our rear view mirrors. If you like me have let things go to pot on the self-care side of things during this most horrendous of years, fear not.

There is still time for a quick reboot before Christmas lands.

Ok, I know there no Christmas parties or gatherings outside three households allowed from December 18, but you will feel better if you look better and even if it’s just family that you are elbowing.

Massage your stresses away

I think it’s fair to say we are all rather stressed so one of the first things I am going to book is a decent massage. Or if you are looking for a decent pressie, why not drop hints about wanting a spa package.

In between lockdowns, I headed as far as the lovely Galmont Hotel Spa. It’s a perennial favourite because of its lovely pool, outdoor hot tub overlooking Lough Atalia and its spacious surrounds in the thermal suite.

The day I ventured inside, there were screens in between the heated beds and hand sanitisers everywhere to ensure everyone was keeping their distance.

I opted for the Lava Shell Full Body Massage (€95 for 80 minutes), which promises to create a sense of balance for the entire body and mind – a hard task indeed.

My masseuse explained that the warmth of shells combined with deeply relaxing massage techniques are excellent for alleviating stress as well as aches and pains.
