To paraphrase that classic Led Zeppelin tune has it been a long time since you rock ‘n’ rolled? If the answer is yes, then right that wrong when No Stairway come to Róisín Dubh on Friday August 18. Playing the songs made famous by the iconic rock band, No Stairway are a tribute band par excellence. The band formed in 2013, and bassist Shane O’Malley recently recalled a personal highlight from the past four years.

“It has to be playing Crane Lane in Cork on the same night that Robert Plant played the Marquee,” he says. “Seeing the place fill up with die-hard fans, and then watch them be won over after the first few minutes was very satisfying.”

Despite the rumours that circulated several years ago, Led Zeppelin have never embarked on what would be a highly lucrative comeback.

“I really respect their decision to not reunite,” Shane says. “So many groups have milked the nostalgia trend for all it’s worth. It’s very refreshing to see musicians stick to their guns and try to look forward instead of backward.”

Shane is joined in the band by his brother Ronan, who matches Jimmy Page riff-for-riff. Bill Dunne is on drums and Steven Sharpe brings the swagger and impressive vocal range needed to emulate Robert Plant.

“We’ve still got some work to do before the set is perfected there’s an the acoustic set on the way!” Shane says. “But it’s been extremely rewarding so far…long may it continue!”
