They came with sleeping bags, chairs, tents and flasks as avid Garth Brooks fans took their place in a queue outside a shop in Ballinasloe for the past couple of nights in a mad scramble for his concert tickets.

Those who queued outside Gerry Stronge Photography braved temperatures close to zero – such was their determination to secure tickets for the concert which takes place around the end of July.

Even a couple of local publicans expressed sympathy with their situation and one of them brought over a tray of hot whiskeys while another filled a few hot water bottles.

Gerry Stronge is also an agent for Ticketmaster which put the tickets on sale at 9am this morning with the majority of those who queued expected to be accommodated.

Much to his surprise the queue formed at 1pm on Tuesday afternoon and it swelled to around 15 last night. But they came prepared for the rather bitter conditions as they were all well wrapped up for the occasion.

Queues also formed outside OMG@Zhivago in Galway city centre and they too braved rather chilly conditions last night. There were around a dozen in the queue yesterday afternoon but that grew to more than 20 last night.
