Gardaí to increase checkpoints on Headford road to tackle illegal dumping

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Gardaí are to increase the number of checkpoints on the Headford road to help solve ongoing problem of illegal dumping and burning in the area.

It follows a recent meeting of council respresentatives, residents and Gardaí.

Oranmore area councillor Jim Cuddy says one particular problem is the illegal burning of old wires to release copper which could contaminate water supplies.

He says the illegal dumping and buring is mainly taking place after 5 in the evenings, when Community Wardens have come off-duty.

Councillor Cuddy says litter laws have to be enforced
