Gardai in Oughterard have begun interviewing witnesses in their investigation into the death of local man John Kenny.

A senior Garda source has confirmed detectives are speaking to people and taking statements this afternoon but have insisted no arrests have yet been made.

Door to door enquiries are also being carried out.

A post mortem examination is being carried out by the State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy at University Hospital Galway, which began around 4.30pm.

Gardai say the direction of their investigation will depend on the results of the post mortem examination.

The body of the teacher and part-time publican was discovered by a family member around 6 o’ clock last evening with his hands tied behind his back.

56 year old John Kenny has one daughter and siblings who live in the local area.
