Gardaí are trying to establish the circumstances of an injury suffered by a young boy in the Doughiska area.

The six-year-old boy had been in the car-park area of the Lidl supermarket at Doughiska when he suffered a serious injury to his elbow.

He was in the car-park with his older brother when it is claimed that he was attacked by a man who subsequently left the area reportedly in an Audi car. Gardaí are investigating claims that the boy was attacked by the man and thrown to the ground.

The child was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway on the Thursday afternoon of October 29.

He was found with a serious injury to his elbow and later underwent surgery at UHG. The boy is understood to be making a good recovery.

Gardaí have issued an appeal to the public to come forward with any information if they witnessed the injury to the boy that occurred at about 1.30pm.

While there were CCTV cameras in the vicinity of the Lidl premises, they are not understood to have covered the area where the boy suffered the injury. According to the boy, he was attacked by a man with a grey beard and grey hair, who then left the area in an Audi car.

The alleged attacker was also said to have spoken with a foreign – possibly East European – accent.

A Garda spokesman appealed to anyone who was in the vicinity of the car-park area of the Lidl supermarket around 1.30pm on the Thursday of October 29 to contact them if they can be of help to them in their enquiries. The contact point is Oranmore Garda Station: 091-388030.
