Gardai probe grim ‘body in freezer’ case

Gardaí in Galway were awaiting the arrival of the Assistant State Pathologist this morning (Thursday) as part of their investigation into the shocking discovery of an unidentified man’s body in a cold storage area at the rear of a city premises.
The Connacht Tribune understands that the grim discovery was made at 2.30pm yesterday by the owner of Mermaid Fishmongers on Henry Street.
He alerted the authorities, who immediately preserved the scene at St John’s Avenue, at the back of the Henry Street premises, pending forensic investigation.
Apreliminary examination was carried out yesterday evening, by members of the Garda Technical Bureau and the Assistant State
Pathologist, Dr. Michael Curtis, was due to visit the scene this morning to carry out a preliminary examination.
