Gardai launch murder enquiry following man’s death
Gardai have launched a murder investigation following the death of a Polish man in University Hospital Galway – four people have been arrested this evening.
41 year-old Krzystof Ciesieski died at around 4pm yesterday (Wednesday) in UHG, after an alleged assault in the Cullairbaun estate in Athenry last Thursday night.
It’s understood Mr Ciesieski – known locally as the ‘ice cream man’ – was involved in an altercation between a group of people in a park area in the estate at around 11.30pm and suffered serious head injuries, and may also have fallen awkwardly.
Three men and one woman were arrested this evening and are being detained in Galway and Gort garda stations. A man in his 40s and two male teens have been detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, while a woman in her 30s has been detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
