GARDAI INVESTIGATE FATAL TUAM CRASH

A man was pronounced dead at the scene of a minor crash at Woodquay near Sylane, Tuam last night and a section of the road there remains closed this morning.
The man is thought to have taken ill while behind the wheel of his car as he was driving towards Tuam from Sylane at approximately 6.45 last evening (Sunday)
Tuam Gardai, Tuam Fire Brigade, ambulance personnel and a doctor were quickly on the scene but the man was pronounced dead shortly after 7 pm.
He was removed to University Hospital Galway where a post mortem will be carried out today (Monday).
The stretch of Tuam- Sylane road from the Weir Village to the side road to Kilbannon Church, opposite Donnelan’s House, will remain closed for several hours this morning while a forensic examination is carried out.
Traffic diversions are in place via The Weir Village and Kilbannon.
The man who died is from the Sylane area and is a single man in his early 60s. His name will not be released by Gardai until all his next of kin have been contacted
