Galway Gardaí are warning that action will be taken on students breaching the peace during an unofficial rag week taking place this week.

Up to 15 people were arrested for public order offences in the city overnight.

Councillor Frank Fahy told a meeting of the city joint policing committee yesterday, that the event had been branded ‘social week’.

Councillor Padraig Conneely added that the whole week would be fuelled by alcohol, and needed to be closely monitored by Gardaí.

NUI Galway and GMIT college management say they do not support any RAG week events.

Speaking on ‘Galway Talks’ Sergeant Peadar Ryan advised listeners to contact Gardaí or College authorities if they are affected by unruly student activities.
