GARDAI CONTINUE TO INTERVIEW INISHBOFIN ISLANDERS ON DOUBLE TRAGEDY

Islanders on Inishbofin are in a state of shock and disbelief following the deaths of two men in a boating accident at the weekend.

The bodies of former Mayo footballer Ger Feeney and businessman Donal McEllin – who were both from Castlebar in Co. Mayo – were found yesterday morning.

Gardaí are continuing to interview locals on the Island in a bid to identify the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths of two men.

Gardai and the Marine Casualty Investigation Board are both investigating what happened, but it’s thought the men may have got into difficulty as they used a dinghy to get back to their motor cruiser which was anchored off the island.

Local councillor Eileen Mannion who lives in Clifden says the mood on the Island is one of shock and disbelief
