From this week’s Galway City Tribune – A man travelled 20km to sunbathe naked at a Barna beach – despite Covid-19 travel restrictions.

It’s just one of a number of reported local breaches of the Government guidelines on social distancing during lockdown, which state that people should stay at home and not travel further than two kilometres for exercise to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Salthill Gardaí spoke to a man at an area known as ‘Fraggle Rock’ between Silverstrand and Mags’ Boreen in Barna.

It’s understood the man had driven 20 kilometres from a town in the east of the county last Friday, to sunbathe nude.

It’s also understood there were three other men, clothed, in the vicinity, when Gardaí arrived.

A concerned Barna resident was out walking along the public area of the strand with children when she happened upon the naked man and rang Gardaí to report it.

“People are intimidated walking there. Kids say they won’t go there again. The man was exposing himself, with children nearby,” said the concerned resident.

The man was questioned and reminded about the Covid-19 2km rule.
