GARDAI CALLED TO SCENE OF NUIG INCIDENT WITH O CUIV

Gardai had to be called to the scene of a confrontation between Minister for Community, Rural, and Gaeltacht Affairs Éamon Ó Cuív and students at NUI Galway last night.

Minister O’Cuiv and Education minister Batt O’Keeffe were attending an event to announce plans for a new engineering building for the University.

A scuffle broke out when group of students protesting against the re-introduction of college fees attempted to block Minister O’Cuiv and his secretary from entering the building.

Gardai were called to the scene but no arrests were made.
