Gardaí busy with Paddy’s Day party call-outs
From this week’s Galway City Tribune – Overall, St Patrick’s Day in the city passed off without any major incidents coming to the attention of Gardaí – but there were still a number of public order arrests, drink driving offences and call-outs to deal with house parties.
A Garda spokesperson told the Galway City Tribune that in general, there was a very high level of compliance with the Covid regulations in the city and Salthill area over the course of St Patrick’s Day.
“We did maintain a high profile in terms of our presence on the streets – as well as road checkpoints – and while there were a lot of family groups out for walks and strolls, it was a very much low-key day across the city,” said the spokesperson.
Once again, the Knocknacarra area seemed to be the major focal point for ‘gatherings’ of teenagers, while Gardaí also received a number of calls in relation to ‘activity’ in the Doughiska area.
Gardaí were called to deal with an outdoor gathering of a number of youths in the Doughiska Park area shortly after 8.30pm on Wednesday night, but reported that the party broke up after the guards arrived and spoke to those present.
A suspected house party was also reported to Gardaí in the Doughiska area around 9.30pm on St Patrick’s Night, but on arrival, the guards found no sign of any activity.
Across the city and Salthill, there were a total of five arrests in relation to public order incidents while three motorists were also arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
