Gardai investigating the death of a man near Rossaveal are appealing for witnesses.

They’ve identified the man as a middle-aged Connemara native but are not releasing his name until all relatives have been informed.

A passerby discovered the man’s body in a ditch off the main road between Rossaveal and Baile na hAbhainn around 8am.

Gardai are treating the discovery as suspicious due to the location of the body, and the man is understood to have suffered head injuries.

The Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis is due to carry out a preliminary examination at the scene this afternoon.

Superintendent Noel Kelly is appealing for witnesses to contact them at Carraroe Garda Station.
