Garda warning over ‘scourge’ of crack cocaine hitting Galway

From this week’s Galway City Tribune – Gardaí have made one of their biggest ever seizures of crack cocaine – regarded as being one of the most highly addictive and destructive drugs.

Members of the Divisional Drugs Unit seized €26,000 worth of crack in a raid on a house in the College Road area on Wednesday at around 10pm – as well as €8,500 worth of heroin and €4,000 in cash.

One man in his mid-20s was arrested and later released – a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Chief Superintendent Tom Curley said the seizure of the crack was ‘highly significant’ given the highly addictive nature of the substance and its link to crime and violence.

“Drugs are a real scourge, but especially so crack cocaine, and it is extremely worrying to find it here in the city.

“This is probably our largest ever find of this substance in Galway,” said Chief Supt Curley.
