Garda dragged along road by car
From this week’s Galway City Tribune – A man in his 20s is to appear next month at Galway District Court to face charges in relation to a Garda being dragged by a vehicle for almost 280 metres along a city road.
The incident happened close to Mill Street Garda Station in the early hours of Wednesday, November 27 last.
The car had been parked at a carpark close to Mill Street Station, and the Garda involved attempted to stop the driver who took off in the direction of St Joseph’s Church on Presentation Road.
In the incident that occurred at around 4.30am, the Garda was initially knocked down and then dragged along the roadway before the car eventually came to a stop after being involved in a minor collision.
The driver of the car was arrested at the scene and taken for questioning to Mill Street Garda Station before being released – a detailed file on the incident was then forwarded to the DPP by Gardaí.
The Garda was taken to University Hospital Galway for treatment – his injuries were not life threatening.
Yesterday, Gardaí confirmed that following directions from the DPP, the man was re-arrested this week and charge in relation to the incident.
