GARDA DETAINED OVER ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT

A Garda is being detained this afternoon over an alleged sexual assault.

The man was arrested early this morning by investigators from the Garda Ombudsman Commission following an allegation of a criminal nature.

The man is being detained at Loughrea Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and is assisting the Garda Ombudsman with its enquiries.

It’s the first arrest ever made by the Garda Ombudsman Commission since its establishment in 2007.
