GARDA CORDON AT BELMONT AS SEARCH OPERATION CONTINUES

A garda cordon in the Milltown/Belmont area is expected to remain in place this afternoon as the hunt continues for two men who fled the scene of a collision last night.

Gardai are advising the public NOT to confront the pair but to report any sightings or suspicious activity to Tuam Gardai on 093-70840.

The men who are believed to be aged between 20 and 40 are being pursued following a garda chase across North Galway and South Mayo last evening which involved a high powered blue volvo.

Two units of Tuam fire brigade attended the scene of the collision near Belmont School at around 9.15pm.

It’s understood two people were trapped in the vehicle and were taken to University Hospital Galway for treatment.

A search is underway for two other individuals who are believed to have fled from the scene of the incident.

There is a garda cordon currently in place with local access only in the Milltown to Kilconly area as part of the ongoing operation.
