GARDA CLAMP-DOWN ON CITY DRUG SALE AND SUPPLY

Almost 184 thousand euro worth of controlled drugs have been seized in the city in the first four months of this year.
The figure represents a 72 percent increase in the volume of sale and supply incidents recorded by Gardai.
A 26 percent increase is noted for simple possession offences during the period.
Of the total street value, cannabis represented the largest haul with 144 thousand euro of the drug seized.
This is followed by heroin with a street value of over 22 thousand euro.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Chief Superintendent Michael O’Sullivan says detection rates are increasing.
