Galway Bay fm newsroom – City Garda Chief superintendent Tom Curley has vowed to clamp-down on speeding on motorways and secondary roads.

At this week’s meeting of the Joint Policing Committee, Tom Curley told members that four people have lost their lives on the city’s road network so far this year.

He said he has grave concerns regarding boy racers on motorways and secondary roads and has said that such behaviour will not be tolerated.

Cllr Frank Fahy described some of the driving he sees on the motorway as ‘atrocious’ with one young person witnessed doing donuts.

He questioned whether sufficient Garda checkpoints were carried out on the motorway.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Garda Chief Superintendent Tom Curley said the force will be focusing on reducing speeding and making our road network safer.
