GARDA CHIEF SEEKS PUBLIC’S HELP IN RAHOON ASSAULT INVESTIGATION

The public are being asked to help in the ongoing investigation into yesterday’s serious assault in Rahoon, which resulted in a man being rushed to hospital.

A city man was today remanded in custody in connection with the suspected stabbing at 118 Claremont Park.

36 year old Billy McGinley, of the same address appeared before a special sitting of Derrynea District Court.

He was charged with assault causing harm under Section 3 of the Non-fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

Judge Mary Fahy remanded him in custody to appear before Galway District Court next Wednesday.

The victim, who’s in his early 30’s and from Kinvara, was rushed into emergency surgery at UHG after the alarm was raised at 7.30 am.

His condition was critical for a time yesterday but he’s now reported to be stable.

Gardai have now completed their door to door enquiries and Supt Noel Kelly who’s heading up the investigation says any help from the public would be very useful.
