Galway’s top exporters deliver €23 billion boost

Galway’s top thirteen companies will export goods to the tune of €23 billion across the medical, pharmaceuticals and electrics this year.

The highest ranking Galway manufacturer was Medtronic Ireland with exports worth a staggering €16.7 billion, making it the third highest exporting company in the country.

Boston Scientific was 14th overall with €4.1 billion; Bard Shannon was 38th with €924 million; Schneider Electric It Logistics came 52nd, with €6.95 million, and Mylan Teo was 128th with €167 million to complete Galway’s top five.

The figures were released this week by the Irish Exporters Association, in association with Investec, a leading specialist bank and wealth and investment manager, as it launched its 2015 edition of Top 250 Exporters in Ireland.

Overall from an Irish perspective Microsoft was named the largest exporting company, moving up one place from its previous year’s ranking, replacing Google which held top spot last year.

Microsoft’s export turnover increased by 21% – from €15 billion in 2014 to €18.2 billion in 2015. Microsoft was followed by Google Ireland Ltd with export turnover of €17bn, Medtronic, Johnson & Johnson in Ireland (€10.5bn) and Ingersoll Rand plc (€9.8bn).
