GALWAYS PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE LOSES GROUND

A new opinion poll shows that Labour’s candidate for the presidency, Galway’s Michael D Higgins is losing ground to his rivals.

The Paddy Power Red C poll puts the former Labour Minister 12 points ahead of his nearest rival Gay Mitchell – and shows that Independent candidate Mary Davis is making gains.

It puts labours Michael D Higgins out in front on 36% of the vote Fine Gael’s Gay Mitchell is on 24% with Independent Sean Gallagher on 21 and Mary Davis on 19%.

But compared to September Michael D Higgins’ lead over the others has slipped 3 points and Mary Davis has made a 4 point gain.
