Cork 1-14

Galway 2-10

AFTER staging a remarkable comeback in the second half of the All-Ireland U-16 A camogie final in Nenagh on Sunday, the Galway team were left heartbroken as they ran out of time after reducing the margin to the minimum.

When Katie Gilchrist struck a low 21-yard free beyond the Cork defenders and into the net it looked as though the Tribeasgirls might get a chance to snatch an unlikely draw.

However, referee John Dermody blew the full-time whistle immediately afterwards and the Rebels were victorious. The Galway players were dejected but they had shown tremendous character to come back from ten points down with just six minutes of normal time remaining. In the end, they were beaten by the clock as Cork breathed a sigh of relief at full time.

Galway started the game well with two pointed frees from Gilchrist, before Cork replied with a 45 from Cliona Lynch. Aimee Morgan then pointed for the Rebels before another 45 from Lynch put them in front. Galway equalised when Gilchrist fired over after a great delivery from Ciara Hickey.

Cork found the net with their next score, however, with Morgan breaking through the Galway defence and striking a low shot past Amy Hawkins. Lucy McNulty added a point for them a minute later to stretch their lead.

Galway’s first goal chance came when Sabina Rabbitte had a shot well saved by Cork’s Ciara Hurley, before Gilchrist had a shot deflected out for a 45, which she converted. Orlaith Cahalane then pointed a free for Cork to leave a four-point gap between the teams at half-time.
