Galwayman’s devotion to developing Ireland’s film industry

GALWAY man Redmond Morris is a major player in Irish and international film, with his most recent production, The Reader, being nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture and winning an Oscar for actress Kate Winslet.

He has played an integral role in the development of the Irish film industry, working on films including Interview with the Vampire, The Butcher Boy, Michael Collins, The Wind That Shakes the Barley and The Crying Game.

But Redmond, the current Lord Killanin, is a man who prefers to remain behind the scenes. So nobody was more amazed than he was when Galway Film Fleadh decided to pay tribute to him at this year’s event, by screening several of his films and making him the subject of a public interview with Fleadh co-founder Lelia Doolan,

“I was extremely surprised when I got the email that they wanted to do something for me. It brought mixed emotions because I’m not a ‘high profiley’ type of person,” he says from London where he is currently working his next production London Boulevard. This film is based on the novel by Galway writer Ken Bruen and will star Colin Farrell and Keira Knightly.
