GALWAY WOMAN’S DEFENCE DISPUTES MURDER TRIAL EVIDENCE

The reliabililty of DNA tests which linked a Galway woman to the murder of a Newry grandmother, is being questioned in court.

42 year-old Karen Walsh of Dublin Road, Newry is charged with murdering her 81 year-old neighbour Máire Rankin on Christmas day in 2008.

According to today’s Irish Independent, a DNA expert told Belfast Crown Court that he has concerns over the forensic evidence gathered in the case.

Galway native, pharmacist Karen Walsh, is accused of murder of pensioner Máire Rankin who was found dead in her home in Newry in December 2008 after a viscious assualt.
