Galway West TD welcomes decision not to sell Coillte rights
Galway bay fm newsroom – Galway West TD Éamon Ó’ Cuív is welcoming the Government’s decision not to go ahead with the sale of Coillte’s harvesting rights.
Yesterday, the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform said the Government decided it is not the appropriate time to proceed with the proposal, however Brendan Howlin said the state owned forestry company is to undergo a fundamental restructuring.
Two of the largest timber companies in the country are based here in Galway – ECC and Murray Timber.
ECC employs 110 staff at its site in Corr na Mona and another 210 people in spin off services.
The Murray timber group, which has sites in Ballygar and Carlow, employs around 140 people directly and 150 people indirectly
