Galway West RESULT: Naughton takes final seat

All five seats in Galway West were filled today, with Hildegarde Naughton taking the fifth and final seat ahead of her party colleague, Seán Kyne.

Naughton was elected without reaching the quota, and Kyne was the last candidate standing not to be elected.

On the 13th count, which concluded at 5pm, Naughton was deemed elected having taken 983 transfers from Catherine Connolly’s surplus.

Naughton was almost 2,000 votes ahead of Kyne – 9,519 compared with 7,574.
