GALWAY WEST – Ó Brolcháin to reflect on political career

Defeated Green Party candidate Niall Ó Brolchain put his defeat in Galway West down to the fact that his colleagues had to take unpopular decisions for the good of the country.
The outgoing Seantor said he would be taking time out to evaluate his own future, reflecting on whether or not he would continue in political life.
"I will talk to many people before making a decision, but right now I really do not know.
"Let’s accept that the result wasn’t a predictably good one, but I will always be grateful to the people who supported me. This is not a good night but that’s politics," he said.
The former Mayor of Galway said he had spoken to Green Party leader John Gormley and said that he also wouldn’t be making hasty decisions on the party’s future. But he said the Greens were a movement as opposed to just a political party and they would not be going away.
"Time will tell what happens next; we now have a new Government which says it can do things in a different way. Well let’s see what they can do so differently," he added.
