Galway West 2nd Count: Loughnane eliminated

Solidarity/People Before Profit’s two Galway West candidates have been eliminated in Galway West.

Joe Loughnane’s 445 votes will now be redistributed in the third count, as will Conor Burke’s 512 votes.

Mr Loughnane’s campaign was embroiled in controversy as people went to the polls yesterday following claims of misconduct on social media – with his party calling for people to vote for Mr Burke instead.

The redistribution of Independent candidate Daragh O’Flaherty’s 318 votes saw sitting TD Noel Grealish (Ind) gain an additional 116 votes, with both Catherine Connolly (Ind) and Cormac Ó Corcoráin adding 39 to their respective totals.
