Galway West 10th Count: Edging towards final two seats

The count in Galway West is edging slowly towards filling the final two seats – with the redistribution of Noel Grealish’s (Ind) surplus failing to carry any of the remaining candidates across the finish line.
Sitting TD Catherine Connolly (Ind) took 109 votes from Grealish’s surplus on the tenth count. She now leads the field as the redistribution of Mairéad Farrell’s (SF) surplus gets underway.
The two sitting Fine Gael TDs – Seán Kyne and Hildegarde Naughton – remain in play, with Naughton the likely candidate to hold one seat for the party.
Social Democrats candidate Níall Ó Tuathail is currently 122 votes behind Kyne, but transfers from Farrell will determine which candidate will be eliminated on the next count.
