Galway turfcutters to protest in Kerry
Up to 50 turfcutters from South Galway will protest in Kerry today (9/5) in solidarity with turf cutters who are due to appear before the courts.
A coach carrying the turfcutters left Abbey early this morning, with stops in Killimor and Portumna and is now on its way to Listowel.
The group intends to meet up outside the courthouse with other turf cutters from around the country to hold a silent protest.
Placards and banners will be held high, but the group says it has no intention of disrupting court proceedings.
It’s understood the court proceedings relate to charges of illegal turf cutting in the Kerry region.
