Turf cutters in Galway are hoping that the Government will row back on a decision to restrict turf cutting in the county.

Members of the Turf Cutters and Contractors Association met with Environment Minister, John Gormley in Galway last week.[31/1]

Turf cutting is restricted on 32 bogs in Ireland as part of an EU Directive.

Many people, particularly in Connemara, say this will cause hardship in rural areas.

Paddy Concannon of the Turf Cutters and Contractors Association says the legislation needs to be revisited in the current economic climate.
