GALWAY TURF CUTTERS JOIN KERRY DEMONSTRATION

Up to 70 turf cutters from Galway travelled to Listowel today where they demonstrated against the turf cutting ban alongside Kerry’s turf cutters.

The group picketed the office of Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan’s clinic in Listowel.

They also spoke to the Minister, and urged him to seriously consider the de-designation of raised bogs.

12 bog complexes across county Galway are impacted by the ban on domestic turfcutting – about a third of the number of designated boglands nationally.

Speaking from Listowel, Dermot Moran from the Barroughter, Clonmoylan and Ardraigue Bogs Action Group says turf cutters will continue to oppose the ban
