Galway to get super fast broadband network
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway has been named as one of the cities set to benefit from a new 450 million euro broadband network.
According to today’s Irish Independent, the service is scheduled for 50 large towns and suburbs and is targetting 500 thousand homes and businesses.
The plans have been unveiled by ESB and Vodafone, and promise internet speeds of 1,000 megabytes.
The plan is to use ESB powerlines to carry fibre-optic cabling directly into homes and business premises.
It’s hoped the network will push Ireland into Europe’s upper tiers of internet connectivity.
