Galway to benefit from major regional geological survey
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway is to be included in a major regional geological survey of the North Midlands area.
The EU funded ‘Tellus’ project has been approved by the Department for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.
The survey will involve Galway, Roscommon, Longford and Westmeath.
It’s led by the Geological Survey of Ireland and aims to deliver long-term economic and environmental benefits for the region.
The study will take place this summer and late autumn and will include airborne data collection along with soil sampling.
The initiative has already taken place in the border counties from 2011 to 2013.
It was decided to extend the scheme to the north – midlands region due to the potential for inward investment, better environmental management and agricultural productivity.
