The Department of Foreign Affairs is working with the Irish Embassy in Croatia to repatriate the remains of 19-year-old Galway man Eamon Buckley, who died in a tragic boating accident this week.

Eamon – who was from Gortahalla in Moycullen – was part of a group of 40 young people from Galway who were attending the ‘Ultra Europe’ music festival in coastal town of Split.

His twin brother Liam is believed to have been part of the group attending the event.

It’s believed he fell from a boat, hit his head and drowned. The alarm was raised in the early hours of Tuesday morning, and his body was recovered at around 9.45am.

Arrangements are now being made through the Irish Embassy for his remains to be repatriated.

Eamon had just completed his first year of a science degree at NUI Galway, and has been described as a fantastic football player.

He played, along with his brother Liam, on the Moycullen Minor A football team, which won the county final in 2013.
