Galway teen’s kindest cut for cancer charity in memory of granny
After witnessing her granny losing her hair to cancer, Jasmine Treacy set out on a mission four years ago; she wanted to grow her hair so long that she could donate it to a charity that creates wigs for young cancer survivors.
Jasmine, now 15, recently achieved that ambition, getting Sharon’s Hairdressers in Athenry to cut 15 inches off her luscious locks just before Christmas.
Her hair was in such good condition that the charity, the Little Princess Trust, revealed it would be able to use all of the hair it received.
Not only did she agree to chopping her crowning glory, she wanted to raise money for the GSPCA, where her family had found their beloved boxer who has since died.
“Cancer has been a big thing in this family,” reveals her mum, Elisa Ritchie.
“Her granny Fran Beades had a couple of different types of cancer. It was a bit of a shock when she lost her hair. When the child of a friend of mine donated her hair for a wig, Jasmine thought what a good idea it would be to grow her hair long enough to do the same, so she’s planning it for at least four years.”
