Galway TDs will pay water charges – even if they don’t support them

Law-abiding Galway TDs said that they would pay the water charges even if they did not agree with them.

However, Dail deputies from across the divide agree that the establishment of Irish Water left a lot to be desired. But some TDs in County Galway are shy to offer their opinion of the controversy that gripped the nation last weekend. They still do not want to end up in court.

There is a view, though, that payments of water charges have to be suspended in the wake of the protests that took place.

Galway Dail Deputies say that they will pay the water charges even if they don’t like doing so. Even Fianna Fail TDs say that the establishment of Irish Water was rushed and the decision should be revisited.

Of the nine TDs elected in Galway city and county, just seven responded to queries about Irish Water.

Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon (FG) and Galway West TD Derek Nolan (Lab) did not respond to calls made to them by The Connacht Tribune. Messages were left on their mobile phones.

Most TDs say that they do not have a problem releasing their Personal Public Service number (PPS) although some are only doing so because it is the law.
